Verdiem Gives PCs at National Institutes of Health (NIH) Energy Rx with SURVEYOR
PC Power Management Software Helps Agency Reduce Greenhouse Emissions, Cut Costs and Reduce PC Energy Waste
Seattle - November 12, 2007 - Verdiem, the leading developer of power management software for PC networks, today announced that the National Institutes of Health is using Verdiem's SURVEYOR software to reduce PC energy. To-date, NIH has installed SURVEYOR on several thousand PCs within the Office of Research Services (ORS) and Office of Research Facilities (ORF) with additional groups projected to follow. By deploying SURVEYOR, the agency is saving an average of 953,678 kWh of electricity or about $71,000 annually.
"Organizations in the federal sector are showing increased interest to deploy SURVEYOR," said Charles Wise, Director of Energy & Federal Partnerships for Verdiem. "In turn, we are offering groups like the NIH a tool that impacts their bottom line quickly and gives an almost-instant solution to reducing PC energy waste and CO2 emissions."
Studies show that PCs and monitors use between five and thirteen percent of all power consumed in office environments. With growing awareness around eco-conscious practices, many companies, communities and organizations are increasingly seeking ways to monitor, measure and manage their IT energy waste. By using Verdiem's SURVEYOR, federal agencies such as NIH can centrally manage the sleep, shut down and wake cycles to eliminate PC power waste, and therefore reduce global warming, CO2 emissions and spending on energy.
During 2007, SURVEYOR customers will save over 60,000,000 kWh of electricity, which is equal to:
- A reduction of 37,912 metric tons of CO2 greenhouse gases
- Over 88,000 barrels of oil not used
- More than 8,000 passenger cars not driven for one year
